Water Resources can be described as the “origin, the source” the place from which water is stored as reserves, then supplied for use. These sources are mainly Rain Water from Precipitation, Surface Water from Natural Springs, Lakes, Rivers, Ground Water from subsurface aperture space of soil and rocks flowing within aquifers below the Water-Table. A new source of non natural, “manufactured” fresh water that has generated much interest is Desalination. Desalination, which is an artificial process by which saline water (generally sea water) or very deep ground water, is converted to fresh water. The most common desalination processes are distillation and reverse osmosis.
Growing up in the Caribbean, during the months of July to November, (hurricane season) it was customary to hear the distance rumbling of thunder, and see the super sharp lightening during a thunder storm. Today, a storm will pass without much of that activity, sometimes with really high winds, BUT no “clashing” of the elements in the sky like before. Is this a shift due to Climate Change??”
Managing our Local Drinking Water Resources and domestic supply is now a top priority for the government of St.Kitts and Nevis. Recently an underground source in Shadwell Extension was deemed unsafe for domestic use.
This area Shawell, was a Sugar Plantation. Did chemicals from that Sugar Cultivation Era contaminated the ground Water within that aquifers below the Water-Table?? More information “Please.”
Climate Change (excessive warn temperatures), Industrial Air, River and Sea Pollution, Forest Fires, Domestic Pollution, Vehicle exhaust emission, Farm run-off, you name it, these all contribute to the problem of maintaining good water quality. The water cycle, they have an impact on it, yes, the Water Cycle.
